Having a blog doesn't guarantee organic traffic. Publishing content doesn't either. What guarantees Google rankings is content created with search intent in mind, technically optimized, and backed by sufficient authority. Here's the complete methodology.
Step 1: Research search intent before writing a single word
Before creating any content, search your target keyword on Google and analyze the top 3–5 results. Answer these questions: Are they blog posts, service pages, or videos? Do they use list format, tutorials, or guides? What specific questions do they answer? Google is already showing you exactly what type of content it wants to surface for that query. Fight that pattern and you'll lose.
Step 2: Structure with H2s and H3s that answer real questions
Use the «People also ask» section in Google and tools like AnswerThePublic to identify the exact questions your audience is asking. Each H2 in your article should answer one of those questions. This structure satisfies both the algorithm and the reader simultaneously.
Step 3: The right length — neither more nor less
Write enough to fully answer the question. For informational queries («how to do X»), articles of 1,500–2,500 words typically rank best. For transactional queries («best software for X»), 800–1,200 tightly focused words may suffice. The optimal length is the minimum needed to be the best result.
Step 4: Technical elements you cannot skip
- Short, descriptive URL: /blog/create-seo-content — not /blog/post-june-2026-123
- Keyword in H1 title, first paragraph, and at least two H2s
- Unique meta description of 150–160 characters with the keyword and a CTA
- Images with descriptive alt text: Google doesn't see images — it reads the alt
- Internal links: link to other relevant pages on your site
Step 5: Update content you already have
A 2023 article with outdated information loses rankings progressively. Reviewing and updating existing content typically generates faster ranking improvements than creating new content. Add updated dates, new statistics, and sections answering questions that have emerged since the original publication.
